　　We write to advise that we have been retained by Mr L of Company C to assist him in applying for a visa to America.

　　You will recall that you invited Mr L to visit Company A but unfortunately his application for a B1 visa has been rejected. We are in the course of preparing materials to put in a second application and we need your assistance in issuing a letter of support.

　　There are around 300 applicants for visas everyday at the American Embassy in Beijing. Because of the large number of applicants vis-a-vis the small number of visa officers, each applicant is allowed only 3 to 5 minutes to convince the official that a visa should be granted.

　　As quite a large percentage of previously approved applicants had failed to return to China after their approved stay, the success rate for new visas is low, less than 15%. The large number of rejections, the limited time available for each applicant for the interview, plus the general commotion created by people moving around in the interviewing area all added to an intimidating atmosphere, creating a great deal of strain and nervousness on the part of the applicants.

　　To ensure that Mr L gets a better chance of success in his next attempt, we are proposing to put down all relevant facts on paper, thus reducing the need for him to verbally explain his case during the interview.

　　To this end, we feel that a letter of support from you will be of tremendous assistance to his application. We have taken the liberty in enclosing a draft for your consideration. You are, of course, welcome to amend and polish as you think fit.

　　Subject to your revision and agreement, we would appreciate it if you could have the final version typed on company letterhead and faxed back to us in the first instance, and then have the original couriered to Mr L.

　　We are asking Mr L to sign on the bottom of this letter to confirm his agreeemnt to this request and we are sending a copy of this message to Mr A B Cee in Taiwan for his information.
